FROM OUR HOMESTEAD
Berries from the bushes, kept all winter long.
Up here, the summer is short and the berries don't last. We pick more than we can possibly eat — raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, currants — and the freeze-dryer lets us tuck all that bright color away for the long Alaskan winter.
This cake is what comes out the other side. The flavor is concentrated, the color is real, and the only secret is the freeze-dried fruit doing the heavy lifting.
